The research project Média Mediums, directed by Jeff Guess (Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts Paris-Cergy) and Gwenola Wagon (Université de Paris VIII) explores a wide range of experiences and practices that have to do with the idea of transmission at a distance. It is an investigation into the archeology and prospective future of various communication technologies (telegraph, telephone, radio, television, etc.) and their historical relationship to what are considered to be more occult phenomena (mesmerism, telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, etc.).

Research team: Jean-Philippe Antoine, Jean-Louis Boissier, Stéphane Degoutin, Jean-Noël Lafargue, Julien Prévieux and Anne Zeitz

An exhibition at the Ygrec gallery (Paris, april-juin 2014) presented an investigation into and circulation of various archives, histories, protocols and devices linked to the idea of transporting thought and intelligence across space and time : mesmerism, spirit telegraphs, clairvoyance, television, ectoplasms, direct voice phenomena, suggestion, martians, aether and fluids, ghosts, mind reading, theory of information, telepathy, electronic voice phenomena, encrypted messages... There were four nightly events consisting of lectures, performances, discussions, concerts and demonstrations.

A seminar bringing together students from the classes “Communication Protocols : Technology and the Spirit World” (Jeff Guess) and "Histoires de Fantômes et de Machines” (Gwenola Wagon), is the site for lectures and discussions on the history of telecommunications and spirit phenomena.

A collection of 20 books, made in collaboration with Jérôme Saint-Loubert Bié was produced. The authors - Philippe Baudouin, Jean-Louis Boissier, Stéphane Degoutin, Leif Elggren, Renaud Evrard, Raphaël Faon, Nicolas Gourault, Jeff Guess, Noël Lafargue, Lauren Moffatt, Ayuko Nishida, RYBN, Jeffrey Sconce, Noah Teichner, Gwenola Wagon, and Anne Zeitz.

In the fall of 2015, a long weekend is planned where there will be an exhibition, concerts, workshops, lectures, performances, etc. A publication is slated for 2015-16 with Les Presses du Réel.
