déplacement 1

Déplacement (1997) is a series of 3D photographic pairs made from lateral cinematic camera movements: travelling shots, pans and the movement of objects or people within a fixed frame.

The series is based on two simple observations. Firstly, stereoscopic images made for traditional 3D viewers present two slightly different views of the same subject where the space separating the two points of view is more or less equal to the average distance between human eyes. Secondly, in film, lateral camera movements constitute a regular succession of different points of view projected onto the same plane.

Two consecutive film stills are extracted from this continuous movement and placed side by side on a 3D card. As with Translation, made at the same time, a subtle shift is produced, bringing to light a latent image and corresponding depth effect already present in the filmic material.
